Shared 5 Digit UK SMS Shortcodes.

Textvertising offer a Shared 5 digit shortcode allowing businesses to generate a database of mobile numbers, receive SMS from end users directly as an email (sms to email) or to provide competitions or other interactive services.

Please be aware that our service INCLUDES a fully web based service to manage your shortcode service. Many providers expect you to develop your own.

Shared shortcodes in their simplest terms are a short 5 digit numbers that end users can text. Being short they are easy to remember and are an accepted "opt in" method.

 

The Basics

Shared shortcodes require the use of a KEYWORD. A keyword is a word that any message must start with - eg BROCHURE. You can also configure SUB-KEYWORDS. These are words that can follow the main keyword. This is very useful when you need more information - eg VAN or CAR could be a sub keywords for BROCHURE. The end user could text BROCHURE CAR or BROCHURE VAN.

It can get more advanced. By default you will always need at least one keyword. But you can have more than one keyword if required. We can map all additional keywords to your service and even map them to perfom like a Keyword/Sub-Keyword combination - eg a keyword CAR could do the same thing as BROCHURE CAR but the word CAR just makes it easier for the end user to interact and makes marketing simpler.

Why use a 5 digit shortcode?

Shortcodes are easier to remember than phone numbers and are a great way to provide an alternative way for end users to contact you or express interests in products or services you adverise on Radio, Press or TV.

Texting a shortcode costs the end user just a single standard rate text message. We offer the flexibility of either sending back no message, a free message or a billed message costing between 10p and £5. When billing is involved you are required to use a shortcode.
